What is a natural area ?
A departmental jurisdiction
The policy for the natural areas comes under the departmental level – in accordance with the management law of the 18th July 1985. In the Pas-de-Calais, this policy has been in effect since 1978.
For more than 30 years, the department has had the right of pre-emption and – thanks to the TDENS income (Departmental Tax of the Espaces Naturels Sensibles) – the means to pursue a bold policy of land acquisition aiming to conserve its natural heritage and to introduce it to the great majority thanks to the setting up of welcoming facilities for the public (tracks, observation posts…).
This policy thus contributes to changing the image of the department and takes part in the regaining of a certain quality of life, of a lifestyle even more respectful of our territorial identity.
